The Sicomac School Student Council provides our students with the opportunity to experience student government. Officers are from the fifth grades and class representatives are elected from grades three through five. As part of the election process, candidates for officers made posters to display and they prepared campaign speeches. The speeches were videotaped and subsequently broadcast to the classrooms. Students in grades four and five voted for officers, and then each class in grades three through five voted for class representatives. Mrs. Powers and Mrs. Kirsch are advisors to the Student Council.
Meetings are held twice a month and parliamentary procedure is followed. Some of the first items of business addressed were supporting a hat and mitten drive in conjunction with our local high school, determining spirit days and having a food drive to benefit the area needy. Representatives report after each meeting to their own homeroom and also grades kindergarten through two. At our monthly school-wide meetings, the Student Council officers assist Mrs. Kirsch in many ways.
The Student Council officers and representatives serve as role models to other students and promote good citizenship in our school, our community and they seek to improve the world.
