English Language Learners (ELL)

Multicultural world

The goal of the Wyckoff Public Schools English Language Learner (ELL) program is to provide support to students who speak a language other than English. Students are provided with learning experiences to enrich their English language skills and allow them to build confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. Instructional time is optimized through a combination of pull-out and push-in instruction to help children develop the language skills necessary to be successful students and members of society.

ELL instruction is differentiated by the student’s overall level of English proficiency and his or her individual language needs. The ELL program incorporates the WIDA English Language Development Standards and the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. The ELL Specialist and the student’s classroom teacher(s) work closely to meet the needs of each student.
