Schools Closed
In addition to marking the middle of the final academic trimester, May is a month of celebration - of our teachers, our school nurses, and our students. National Teacher Appreciation Week and School Nurse Appreciation Day are recognized next week, and several spring concerts and events will be performed by our students this month. The 8th grade gave their final concert of the year on Wednesday, to a packed audience. Well done to the singers and instrumentalists who performed under the direction of Mr. Sasson, Mrs. Savery, and Mr. Salisbury. Art nights, science fairs, track meets and field trips are underway across WSD, and students are working hard under their teachers’ direction to master this year’s curriculum in advance of state testing next week.

Teacher Appreciation Week
National Teacher Appreciation Week 2023 is May 8-12, but the festivities in WSD have already begun. The PTO at each of our schools have graciously provided meals and token gifts for our excellent teachers to show their appreciation, and students and families have expressed gratitude in a number of creative ways. Also, May 10th is National School Nurse Appreciation Day. If you have not had a chance yet, go ahead and thank your child’s teacher and school nurse for all they do.
New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) Begin Next Week
The New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) for all students in Grades 3-8 will be administered beginning next week. The NJSLA measures student progress and achievement in the areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science (grades 5 and 8 only). Students will be assessed on various dates during the time period of May 8 to May 19, 2023. Your child’s school will communicate the specific dates for each grade level and subject area. To learn more about the NJSLA, and to view sample items, visit the Assessment page of the New Jersey Department of Education website at https://www.nj.gov/education/assessment/resources.
