Minimum Day for Students
It was nice to see our parents and guardians at Back to School night this week for many of our schools. Sicomac School’s Back to School Night is next Wednesday. If you haven’t seen the article in the Wyckoff Patch about the robotics and virtual reality equipment coming soon to WSD thanks to the generous donation by the WEF, you can check it out here. We thank all those whose contributions to WEF made this technology grant possible. Our sixth graders will head to Frost Valley next week for their environmental education trip, and today is the first soccer game for our middle school players. Go Generals!
Update on Fall and Spring State Assessments
The New Jersey Start Strong Assessments were administered at the middle school this week, and will begin for grades four and five next Wednesday. Individual student reports from last spring’s New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) will be mailed home to families in Grades 4-8 on Monday, October 3. The 2023 NJSLA administration will take place in May for Grades 3-8.
Student Council Members Elected
The Student Council election process has begun in two of our schools and will continue into next month throughout the district. Each homeroom at Eisenhower Middle School held an election this week for homeroom representatives. All students were invited to apply, and a maximum of two representatives was elected for each class. George Washington School elected classroom reps and officers, who then led all students to create their classroom, grade-level, and schoolwide rules for the year. We commend those students who applied for this important role. Congratulations to the winning candidates.
Safety Patrol Starts
Our Student Safety Patrol Officers are assuming their duties over the next few weeks in our elementary schools, greeting younger students and ushering them out of their cars and into school each morning under the supervision of school officials. These fifth graders play a key role in building a caring community at their school.
EMS Teacher Published
A big shout-out to Carly Van Der Wende, Language Arts teacher at Eisenhower Middle School, whose article “The Secret to Great Middle School Presentations” was recently published. This is the latest of several Ms. Van Der Wende’s articles published by Edutopia, a Pre-K–12 education website. Ms. Van Der Wende has been teaching in the Wyckoff School District since 2012.

The Wyckoff Township’s annual fireworks will be held tomorrow, Saturday, September 24th at Memorial Field. For details, visit wyckofffireworks.com.
